I have two amazing college age children. When you are a non-traditional student and a mother to college age children, there can be some odd moments— like the semester I could catch a ride to class with my son who was attending the same community college, or the semesters that my daughter had taken successive identical classes, making me a great resource for her (though of course she did most all of it herself)!
When my children were in school I was a soccer, track, band, and cheer mom! I tried never to miss a game or a meet, and those years really sped by! One moment, I was walking my daughter to school for her first days of school, and the next, we were celebrating her graduation open house. After my youngest graduated, I decided to get back to college full time!
Paul is my oldest. He is a commercial diver, and is currently working in Alaska. He originally started out in the medical field, as an EMT, but decided he really wanted to attend Commercial Diving Academy. He is single, and hopes not to be much longer! When he was in school, he played the french horn, ran track and pole vaulted (giving me countless heart attacks), and played soccer. He was great at science and art, and scuba diving!
Ashley has just finished her associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education. She is hesitating about her transfer options, and she is in love with Jared, who will graduate from the aviation program at WMU in the fall. Ashley was a tuba player in the band, played soccer, and she was a cheerleader (she was a base, and could throw just about anyone in the air, and only suffered two concussions in four years as a result of her talent). She has always been a great leader, babysitter extraordinaire, and is currently an Early Childhood Specialist for Head Start.
