My name is Sherilyn, and as you may have guessed, I am a non-traditional student pursuing my master’s degree in Education-Early Childhood Education. My bachelor’s degree, also in Education, is a major in Family Studies-Child Development with an English minor, completed as a non-traditional student in my 40′s! The major was a necessity, and built around my professional life, which I have been growing into for 20 years. In the real world I am an Education Coordinator for a local Head Start program. This followed a succession of positions in the early childhood education field ranging from working with infants and toddlers, to preschool teacher, to parent educator, to program director, to…well, you get the picture!
The minor–I really wish that had been a major. I have always wanted to be in Garrison Keillor’s Professional Organization of English Majors, but a girl has gotta work, so they say! Oh, and I would have had to take a foreign language, a minor stumbling block at my age! Maybe before Prairie Home Companion comes to a close, Garrison could work in an English minor shtick. Someone send that man an e-mail and suggest it! Until then, English is a sideline pleasure, and I have been working on a couple of short stories, some poetry, and the likes. I’m dreaming of publishing in one of those really great literature magazines someday, and maybe even turning out a children’s book or two.
This page has the following sub pages.
Love Garrison Keiler and loved the Robert Frost quotation too. Thanks for sharing.
Funny–I also am a non-traditional student, doing a blog about non-traditional students for my grad school journalism degree program (I know, my topic is a real stretch…), and we picked the same WordPress template. I now see that I added some of the same blogs as you have to my blogroll!
I have added you to my blogroll as well.

Good luck!
Hi Sherilyn, thanks for the visit. We share the same goal in publishing. I’ve been looking at e-books, which might be a new way to go. Imagine your blog as an e-book other students can refer to when they want to quit. There you’d be, student, mom, and inspiration. Sounds pretty good.
Thanks again,
David
Just wanted you to know you were referenced in my latest blog post: http://bifocalsoncampus.wordpress.com/
